Russian Agroholding Aston to Mine Crypto Using Sunflower Waste
Rostov-based agroholding Aston plans to repurpose sunflower processing waste for cryptocurrency mining. The company will generate power for mining equipment by burning sunflower seed husks, a byproduct of its oil extraction operations. Nikolay Gerasimov, Aston's director of foreign economic activity, revealed the initiative during the 'Expert-South' conference.
Aston has already been registered in Russia's official miner registry. The mining facility will be located near the company's new oil extraction plant in Buzuluk, Orenburg region. Gerasimov noted that the substantial volumes of husk waste made the energy-recycling solution obvious, with excess power being directed toward crypto mining operations.
The specific cryptocurrency to be mined remains undisclosed. The project demonstrates how industrial byproducts can create value in the digital asset ecosystem.
